Finding the Source of Creative Inspiration
Understanding and Trusting the Cosmic Ebb and Flow
I haven't felt like writing lately. That changed this morning after painting. I'm talking about my inspiration for writing, not my work writing. At work, I write sales copy, blog articles, training programs, scripts, websites, landing pages, and email campaigns that convert better than warm donuts.
I'm known as a "seat of the pants" writer in the trade. I write when inspired, and I am inspired often. But lately, my creative inspiration for writing has been entirely void.
My dark side has been saying, "Dude, aren't you sick of hearing yourself write? I mean, who gives a crap about the stuff you like? Nobody. Look, after all the books you've read, dog-eared, and recited over the decades, your conclusion is you don't know squat. Give it up. Retire your pen. Maybe you can be a real painter one day. Hell, think about a vow of silence while you're at it."
Instead, I've been inspired to paint. Why painting over writing? I don't know. I don't know the source of creative inspiration, but the more I play with it, the older I get, the closer it gets to me. It is an indescribable play zone, just like the one I'm in now, sitting at my desk and watching the words flow through me.
