“Honk If You Want Prayer”
The Incredible Story of Roy, the “Scottsdale Prayer Warrior”
I finally met Roy today. After spending time getting to know him, I’ve named him the “Scottsdale Prayer Warrior” because he is.
He’s been doing it for ten years. I’ve seen him many times before, but I never dared stop. Or I was too busy.
I was pedaling my bicycle earlier today when I saw Roy parked in the perfect spot to park. The message from within was clear to me, “Hey, there’s that guy again. Go meet him and see what his story is about.”
As I rolled toward him, I said, “Good morning. Would it be okay if I stopped by for a visit?”
He smiled and welcomed me with open arms as if I were a fly zooming straight into his web. And that’s when we started getting to know each other.
I don’t know Roy’s last name, but I know part of his story.
A Short History of Roy
Roy has gone through hell and is back with a big smile and a loving heart.
Roy grew up and worked a railroad job in the Midwest. In the late 80s, he shattered his leg and ankle.
He’s been retired since then. Roy described himself as a recovering “drunk.”
