How Writing and Journaling Could Change Your Life

I originally wrote and posted this article in my storytelling community. I feel as though by sharing this article with a community of writers at Medium, I’m preaching to the choir.

Many of the articles I read here are about the art of making a living as a writer. I’m blessed to do so, but there’s a bigger point or two for even the most gifted writers among us.

The big idea is that writing and journaling can help us rebuild these connections and make it easier to know what we want and how to get it. At least that’s been my direct experience over the last 40 years.

Reconnecting

According to Dr. Gabor Mate, a renowned addiction expert, we’re losing our connection to the four most important things in life. The four most important connections we need are; nature, people, meaningful work, and our highest Self, which most call God.

Dr. Gabor reveals that we crave to connect the most with these four things:

  1. Nature. If we come from the Garden of Eden, we should all be gardeners of the mind and soul. Humans are losing our connection with nature, and it’s killing us as we trash the planet. Mother Nature endures. It’s our role…
