I called my first "real boss" yesterday.
When Russ picked up the phone, his voice sounded almost the same as it did in 1983; a voice of authority, gravelly. Russ is an "Alpha" who's always working his plan.
Back then when I first met Russ, I was a newly-minted college grad ready to save the world one hotel restaurant diner at a time.
That's because I worked as many other "C student" college grads; in a hotel restaurant as a waiter. It was The Sheraton Grande Hotel in downtown Los Angeles; decadent and ahead of its time.
Russ was having lunch at one of tables. I only knew he was one of the hotel "executive committee" members. I didn't even know what that meant, but I was learning fast.
I barely knew the menu. But to me, ever since my dad taught me to be a bus boy in his hotel restaurant, I knew how to work my section. I knew how to please.
Plus, Russ was a paying customer, and a VIP I needed to take care of. Tips count, you see.
But, the reason I love to call Russ and stay in touch after all these years is because Russ is the man who gave me my first #sales job.
I’ll NEVER forget that feeling of joy!
The day I took my job in Russ' sales and marketing department was the day my life would change forever.
How can we thank enough and love the Russell Dazzio's of the world?
Can’t. I will always be grateful to Russ.
