I’ve been obsessed with painting lately. You’re looking at my art studio on the other side of the Costco stand-up desk where I sit. But it’s time for me to write about the art of building a business. Building businesses and consulting is how I make the most of my living.

I love the art of building businesses. I’m best at the art of business development, melding sales and marketing into a seamless, cash-flow-producing machine.

It started when I was about 9. I had a make-believe hotel in the basement of our family home. I wanted to be like my father because he was an artist who spent his entire working life building businesses.

The more I reveal my journey as a painter, the more I see similarities in all aspects of life, including business. Let’s get into the art of building a business.

The Creative Play Zone

I’ve been working for the last six months, building a business called ThinkFISH. (Funding IS Hard). That means funding businesses with new capital, customers, and cash flow is hard. If it were easy, like painting a picture you love, everyone would do it. And if that were true, fewer of us would have day jobs, no jobs, or work for the government.

Medium stopped paying me due to a technical problem on their end. Their support is unwilling or able to help me. So, I stopped writing. Get a grip, Medium.
