The Three Most Important Lessons Learned While Raising Two Sons Over More than Thirty Years
Why children can be our best teachers.
I got married when I had the emotional intelligence of a 12-year-old. People say I'm hard on myself, but looking back, I've learned a few things as I've grown up a little. One of them is giving due credit to others in our lives, and for me, the most credit goes to my wife of nearly forty years and my college sweetheart during our senior year.
My humble, middle-class, small business owner, young husband, and father's journey traumatized me at times, and it was all worth it. My health, wife, and children are my three most incredible blessings. Without all three, I'd have to manage some severe attachment issues.
Over the recent holidays, spending time with our family reminded me of our many blessings, even though it hasn't always been easy for the two boys, my wife, and me. I routinely tell people that my wife and sons are the best teachers I've had.
My experience raising two boys into happy, healthy, grown men has been that our children can be like mirrors if we're willing to see the reflections.
