Cold prospecting is the #1 way I’ve built several small businesses. It’s the primary way I raise capital today, working with family offices and accredited investors.

Cold prospecting is how I funded 100% of my small business start-ups. I could generate cash flow in 90 days or less in most cases. Selling sales training and coaching in 2003 is one example. My first fee was $25,000 from a top-performing State Farm agent we cold-called. I became cash flow positive by day 62.

Back then, we were old-fashioned. We used telephones for cold prospecting. And phone books.

Telephones are doodly squat to most people these days. Regardless of the tactic, cold prospecting is an art that pays well if you’re willing to practice daily and not give up.

Most people won’t cold prospect. I guess only 12 percent of new sales professionals or small business owners will do for long, let alone well, based on .g direct experience. I’ve hired and coached hundreds of salespeople, sales managers, business owners, and executives.
